Install Rainwater Products and Improve your Profits…
| |
Installing gutters is a job for plumber’s right? Wrong! If you’re a roofer and looking for ways to maximise profits and add value to your business, then offering your customers the right guttering for their property could add value and margin to your next project. Willie Catchwater, our resident guttering expert runs through some of the basics when it comes to choosing the gutter system. |

“Get in shape”
The first and most obvious question to consider is what profile you should fit. Chances are, your customer will have some input into this but it never does any harm to offer a good choice. That way there’s always the possibility of trading up to a more expensive – and profitable profile. Half round and Squareflo are by far the most popular profiles and these will usually form the majority of the jobs you do, but there are other options. Hunter Regency can make any property more attractive, whilst Hunter Ogee may be chosen to maintain character, especially when replacing a traditional metal system or when matching to next door. |
“Who says size doesn’t matter”
For most domestic jobs, 112mm Half round or Squareflo will be able to cope with flow rates. But on larger properties, apartment blocks or commercial jobs, fitting a profile that’s too small could cause you problems with call-backs. Make sure the system will cope with the volumes of rainwater from the roof area, a larger roof or roofing with acute valleys etc. may dictate a higher capacity system. Hunter’s Surefit 125 has an impressive flow capacity of almost 5 litres per second and will cope with the largest of domestic and light commercial properties.

“Be Colourful”
Colour is another choice for your customers to make, although black is the most popular colour, white runs a close second. Brown and grey are other standard colour choices. If you are fitting new PVC cladding or fascias in white, then offer smart new white guttering to go with it.
“Fit it and forget it”
Remember that all of the Hunter guttering on sale at SIG branches features the installer-friendly Surefit fixing system, designed to make fitting fast and easy. Integral clips pivot easily to lock the appropriate fitting firmly to the guttering, while fixing wings facilitate power-tool access to screw holes. Large durable seals ensure secure watertight joints. |
