Asbestoclear - Asbestos Removal For Everyone. |
Asbestos is the greatest single cause of work related deaths in the UK, killing around 3000 people every year. Breathing in the fibres can lead to cancer without hope of a cure. Most of these victims worked in industries making or using asbestos products, and asbestos is now banned – but whenever you work on older properties you can find asbestos.
Some products, like pipe lagging are so dangerous that only specialist decontamination and removal contractors can deal with them – but most of us face asbestos cement roofing.
The good news is that flat or corrugated asbestos cement sheets and guttering contains only 10%-15% asbestos. The asbestos is tightly bound into the cement and if handled properly it can be perfectly safe.
The bad news is that asbestos roofing will shed fibres if it is damaged or broken.
Drilling, cutting or otherwise working on asbestos cement is prohibited, as well as unwise. The only solution if it is in poor
condition is to carefully remove and dispose of it. But you can’t simply throw it in the back of your van and head for the
tip. All asbestos waste is subject to waste management controls, and most waste sites will not accept it. But you can’t call out a specialist asbestos disposal company every time you need to get rid of a few sheets from a domestic garage either.
One easy answer is to use Asbestoclear. Asbestoclear is a disposal pack that gives you everything you need to safely remove small quantities of asbestos cement products.
You get a kit of disposable protective clothing, full safety instructions, and bags to take sheets, gutters, drain pipes and ridge caps. Bag everything up, seal it with the special tape and then just call the Asbestoclear number. They collect and dispose of everything for you, and give you the all-important Consignment Certificate proving safe disposal.
Eileen Parker, Asbestoclear Sales Manager explains why the service is proving so popular “We are licensed Asbestos disposal specialists, and with the new regulations we were finding that some roofers had to hire a full skip costing £700 or more every time they had a few sheets to dispose of. That obviously made things impossible for the small tradesman. With an Asbestoclear Maxibag they can clear around 10 roof sheets – enough for the average garage - for under half that.
We launched the service in March, and already it is proving popular up and down the country.”
Marcus Bevan of Bristol-based Aquaseal Roofing is an enthusiastic Asbestoclear user. “We deal mainly with commercial properties,” he says. “So we often have small quantities of old asbestos panels to dispose of. Getting in a large sealed skip is expensive when it’s only a few sheets. Asbestoclear is a great idea – you save time as well as money.” |
