Roof hatches make roof access easy and safe

Article Image 1

Newcastle manufacturers Stadium skylights have an excellent reputation for their roof mounted glazing products. With changes in health and safety regulations and subsequent demand for safer roof access, they have worked with SIG to develop a factory assembled unit giving easy access to all roofs.

The new SIG hatch range is:
• Suitable for all roofs without expensive modifications to the final waterproofing layer and doubles up as a smoke ventilation system in the event of fire.
• Available in aluminium or galvanised mild steel, or twin skinned metal with a core of PIR insulation.
• Finished with a polyester powder coating for colourfast durability.
• Only opened from the inside, ensuring security, with no visible external fixings.
• Available glazed for lighting stairwells, with a polycarbonate dome or pyramid as the top leaf.
• Available with a folding ladder, held within the roof void and operated by a locking pole mechanism that can also be used for the worm screw gear.

The aluminium option can be welded straight into an aluminium standing seam roof such as Kalzip or Key Bemo. They are also easily installed into a twin skin steel roof or composite panels, by specialist installers such as Aperture of Trafford Park Manchester .

Access all areas!

For polymeric roofs such as EPDM PVC or TPO the curb can be made membrane ready with a strip of the relevant coated material to the underside of the upstand. This allows the unit to be sealed using a hot air gun or approved adhesive.

A choice of opening options
The hatches are available factory assembled in 4 standard sizes with three different opening options.

Option 1 Worm screw gear with quick release catch that is manually operated
Option 2 Electromagnetic catch operated via a wall switch - opened from the switch or wired into the smoke alarm system for automatic ventilation in the event of fire.
Option3 Explosive/ fusible link, allowing the unit to spring open if licked by flame. There is also a manual opening option on this unit.
