Light tubes are becoming popular as a simple way to get light into rooms – especially landings and bathrooms – that would otherwise have no natural light. However, they have meant an unsightly dome on the roof - until now.
The Klober Suntile system replaces a conventional roof dome with a heavy-duty, UV-stable tile to match existing tiles or slates. Installation is fast, without structural alterations or planning applications; even in conservation areas, Planning Officers have approved its use as it is unnoticeable from ground level.
Unlike traditional light tubes, there are no flashings, joist cutting or skilled trades required. Trimming the underslating membrane, plasterboard and insulation is all that is required, so fitting can be completed in under an hour. Klober MD David Arendell commented, “Suntile has been developed to make life easier for the installer and to be as unobtrusive as possible. Its design also follows the style of our Profile Line range of tile vents”.
In full sunlight, one Suntile can produce light equivalent to a 1000 watt light bulb. In terms of electricity saving, even at 300 watts over a five hour day, this equates to at least £30 per year. And even overcast skies give useful light.
Unlike traditional light pipes, the system uses square rather than circular mirror tubing allowing it to be supplied in flat pack, so extension kits can even be nailed if necessary. The kit includes a stylish light diffuser for the ceiling and specially developed, high performance tape to guarantee the ducting remains firmly bonded for years to come.
Suntile can be used at any pitch, even in a mansard roof.
Klober include Suntile fitting courses in their training schedule at its Shepshed Training centre, with dates advertised on the home page of www.klober.co.uk. Technical Manager Graham Copson added “Suntile has been developed to be easy to install, but providing the opportunity to fit the product with a variety of tiles and slates will save time for the contractor and help merchants with sales enquiries”.
